8 months

How is my baby already 8 months?  I have to say, this month was by far the most difficult taking her monthly pictures.  Dan was helping me and we had to do everything we could to get her to not roll over or jump out of the chair.  We didn't even worry too much about catching a smile because we were so busy just trying to get Claire to look at the camera!  This girl is a busy one, always moving and exploring.

This past month has been a fun one.  Claire is so cute and interactive!  She has learned so much this past month.  Here are her 8 month facts:

• Claire can now wave, and it is adorable!  Dan and I are always waving to her just so we can see her cute little wave.  
• Her first bottom tooth poked through this past month.  Her 2nd tooth is close behind.  
• She can say "mama" and "dada" but doesn't really associate those words with us.  
• When I walk over to her, she now lifts her arms for me to pick her up.  Even when I'm not planning on picking her up, she lifts her arms whenever I get close.  
• She plays peek a boo with her burp cloth, towel, bib, blanket, etc.  She thinks it is so funny and always gets a huge smile when she does it.  
• Claire can now sit in the shopping cart and in high chairs at restaurants.  It is so nice!
• We got her a new convertible carseat so she can sit more upright.  She still fit her infant seat but was always trying to sit up in it!
• She loves Gerber Puffs!  She would eat the whole bottle if we let her.  She is really good at grabbing them and feeding herself.  They have been a really great way to keep her happy at dinner or quiet in church.  
• She shakes her head no and it's so cute!
• Claire will roll a ball back and forth with us.  
• She is trying to crawl!  She gets on all 4s and rocks back and forth.  We're sure it'll happen any day now.  Then we will really need to baby proof!
• She loves splashing around in the bath.  
• She likes standing up on the couch (with some assistance).
• Claire can drink out of a straw and really loves when I give her apple juice (which isn't very often).  I wasn't sure if she would know what to do with a straw, but she figured it out pretty quick!

Claire has the cutest smile and is usually pretty happy (except when super tired or teething).  Our friends visited last week and she loved playing w/ their boys and they were amazed at how smiley she is all the time.  We love our smiley girl!  

5 months

My sweet little baby is already 5 months old!  She is growing too fast!  This past month she learned quite a few new skills.  We even bought a baby gate in preparation for what's up ahead.  Here she is...

5 month facts:

• We went on Claire's 2nd road trip to Northern Utah and she did awesome again.  She is really great in the car.
• Claire's new favorite pastime is sucking on her toes!  She does it all the time.
• This past month Claire learned how to roll over.  She has rolled over from tummy to back twice and hasn't done it since.  Dan still hasn't seen her roll over.  In the past week she learned how to roll from back to tummy but only does it in her crib.  Neither of us have actually seen her do it in person, only on the baby monitor.  So now she rolls to her tummy, gets stuck and then cries for help.  I spent all last night rolling her back to her back!  I'm hoping she'll get better at tummy to back soon so I won't always have to help her.  
• She sleeps on her side almost all the time now.
• She is still a great night sleeper and is getting better at nap time.  We are slowly working on teaching her how to put herself to sleep.  
• Claire loves playing with this little bird on her car seat.  If you pull it, it vibrates.  It keeps her entertained in the car.
• She now responds to her name when you call her.  
• She doesn't really laugh yet, but still gives big smiles if you talk to her.  
• Claire sits great in her bumbo.
• When we hold her she likes to stand so she can look around at everything. 
• She spits up a lot. 
• We haven't started solids yet, but probably will soon.  She is acting ready and always pays attention to what we are eating. 
• She likes listening to Dan play the piano.
• She gets excited when Dan comes home from work.  
• She is pretty much content unless she is tired.  
• Claire went swimming for her first time and loved it.  
• When she's on her tummy she moves her arms and legs a lot, I can tell she is getting close to scooting. 
• She loves to touch my hair. 
• She likes when we dance with her.  
• She thinks it's funny when we pretend to eat her fingers and toes.  
• She loves my phone and I have taught her how to swipe through the pictures, she doesn't do it perfectly, but she tries! 
• For a few days she would stick out her tongue and spit, I think she liked how it felt, but she hasn't done it in a week or so.  

Claire is just a little sweetheart!  We love her SO much! 

SnugaMonkey

Tonight I would like to give a shout out to this monkey... SnugaMonkey (from Target)

It is the BEST thing I have bought for Claire.  Its belly even lights up and plays music.  Twice today Claire wouldn't fall asleep so I put her in her crib with this monkey (while keeping close watch on the video monitor) and it calmed her right down and she fell asleep!  Best purchase ever!

3 months!

This sweet girl is 3 months old!  Time is going by too fast!  Luckily Dan was around this time to get Claire to smile while I took the pictures.  I love her 3 month photos!  She is just too cute :).

3 Months:

• Claire took her very first road trip up North for Calvin's baby blessing.  She did awesome and slept most of the way!
• She is starting to take more regular naps.
• She is still in 0-3 month clothes although I am dying to put her in some of her cute 3-6 month clothes!
• This past month Claire discovered her feet.  She loves trying to grab them, especially when I'm changing her diaper.  It makes it a little more difficult!
• She is getting a lot better at tummy time, especially if she's propped up on the boppy pillow.
• She "talks" a lot more.  She loves making noises back and forth with Dan and me.  She smiles and laughs when we make the same noises as her!
• She will play patty cake with Dan, meaning if he claps then puts his hands up she'll put her hands on his.  It is so cute!  She'll only do it with Dan though, not me!
• She is starting to pay more attention to toys and will hold them.
• She will now look at books with me.
• She is always chewing and sucking on her hands, clothes, blanket and toys.  
• We are starting to move her into her own room!  I think it's been harder on me than it has on her.  She sleeps great but I wake up constantly to see if she's ok.  

We are having so much fun with Claire!  She just gets cuter each day!

Claire's Birth Story

Now that my baby is 3 months old (almost) I am finally writing down her birth story.  You can read it if you want, but it's more for me to have recorded somewhere.  Ok here it goes... the story of Claire Michele Deceuster :).

At my 40 week appointment (a couple days past Claire's due date), my doctor told me I was almost dilated to a 3. He said if I didn't go into labor in the next few days he could induce me at 41 weeks.  It felt good to know I wouldn't have to be pregnant much longer, although I was hoping Claire would decide to come on her own.  We set up the induction appointment for Friday, February 8th.  The doctor told me the hospital would call when they were ready to have us come in.  On Wednesday of that week Dan came down with a bad cold.  I wasn't sure what to do.  I really didn't want Dan to be sick the whole time we were at the hospital and I also didn't want the baby to catch anything, so I decided to call my doctor to see what he thought.  He told me he thought we should wait until the following Monday.  As hard as it was to push the induction date back, I knew I was doing what was best for my family.  One good thing about delivering on the following week was that my favorite doctor would deliver us (there are 2 at the practice I go to).  The doctors trade off weeks, so I decided that was another bonus of waiting until the following week.

Monday, February 11th came and Claire still hadn't come on her own, so the hospital called at 5 am and asked if we could be there by 6:30 am.  I was so happy we didn't have to wait all day for them to call us.  I quickly got out of bed and started getting ready.  By this point Claire was 10 days overdue and I was ready to have this baby!  I got ready, packed a few last minute things, and then Dan and I took pictures of the last day it would just be the 2 of us.  That is one nice thing about being induced, you have time to get ready and you aren't in a ton of pain.

We got to the hospital at 6:30 and they took me into the room where I would deliver.  I changed into my hospital gown and then the nurse came in to do all of my paper work and hook up my IV.  She checked my cervix and I was still only dilated to a 3.  They started monitoring my contractions and the nurse told me I had been having them and I hadn't even noticed!  I honestly thought I hadn't been having any contractions.  She even said I had a few big ones and was surprised I didn't even notice them.  By 8:00 am they started the pitocin and by 8:30 my doctor came in to break my water.  Luckily he was already at the hospital doing a C-Section, so he was able to come right over to my room.  Once my water was broken the contractions really started coming and then I was definitely noticing them!  I tried to wait as long as I could until I got the epidural because my doctor told me the epidural slows things down.  By 10:30 the contractions were pretty strong and I was ready for my epidural.  By that time I had only dilated to a 4.  The epidural really didn't hurt too bad and it kicked in quite quickly, which was nice.  At this point we were just waiting for me to dilate fully.  We watched some tv ("Let's Make a Deal" to be specific), we napped, and I ate jello for lunch.  At 12:30 pm I had dilated to a 5.  My doctor was even nice enough to stop by during his lunch break to check on me.  We continued to wait and at 2:30 pm I was dilated to a 6+ and fully effaced.  It felt like it was taking a long time to dilate and I figured at that rate I wouldn't be having the baby until late that night!  The nurse came to check on me again at 3:10 pm and said I was at a 10!  I was ready to push!  I couldn't believe the last few centimeters only took 40 minutes!  The baby was turned a little so they had me lay on my side for a bit to get her to turn the right way.  Once the baby was in the right position I was able to start pushing.  For some reason in my head I just figured I would push a couple of times and the baby would come right out.  How wrong I was, I ended up pushing for an hour and a half!  In the beginning I couldn't really feel myself pushing, so they turned the epidural down.  I then was able to feel the contractions more and I was able to push better.  I don't know how many times I pushed, but it was exhausting.  Poor Dan had to hold one of my legs while a nursing student held the other one.  I think he got pretty tired too.  Dan and the nurse would always say "oh she's so close, she's so close" but then she wouldn't come!  It was kind of driving me crazy.  They even brought a mirror over so I could see her head.  I think they thought it would help motivate me haha.  After an hour or so of pushing I honestly didn't think I could push much longer.  I was SO tired.  I remember just praying in my head over and over for strength.  Finally the baby was really close so the nurse ran and got my doctor.  He came in for the last 2 pushes and delivered sweet, baby Claire!  She came into this world at 5:15 pm and was 8 lbs. 15 oz and 21 inches long.  They were all so sure she would weight 9 lbs.  She was so beautiful with lots of hair!  The Spirit she brought with her was so sweet and strong.  They laid her on my chest and I broke into tears as I looked at my sweet, little miracle baby. I couldn't believe she was here and that she was mine!  It was such a neat experience that I honestly can't even put into words.

They then took her and cleaned her all up.  They did everything in the delivery room, which was nice.  Dan was able to stay by her side the whole time as I watched from the other side of the room.  Once she was all clean they brought her over to me to feed her and cuddle her.  Dan and I were both so happy and felt so much love for our little girl!

The rest of the hospital stay wasn't too exciting.  I remember ordering an oreo shake after she was born and thinking it tasted so good!  I was so hungry after giving birth.  The rest of the stay was filled with learning to feed Claire, lots of nurses and doctors coming in, and even some visitors.  Dan's parents and his brother Ethan and his wife, Tiana, were Claire's very first visitors.

By day 3 I was so ready to go home!  I was really sick of being in the hospital.  The only thing I liked about being there was the food.  It was nice having room service.  I woke up on Wednesday morning at 6:30 and got all ready to leave.  They said I couldn't go home until my doctor came and said it was ok for me to leave.  I waited and he finally came over at 10 am.  I was so happy to go to my own house and relax in my own bed.

So there you have it, that's how our sweet, adorable, amazing baby girl entered this world.  We love her so much!

Overdue

I'm a week overdue and still no baby!  It's surprising since my doctor seemed so sure she'd be here last week.  But I guess you just never know!  The plan was to induce me tomorrow, however, then Dan came down with a nasty cold.  After talking with the doctor we have decided to wait until Monday for the induction.  I don't want Dan miserable the whole time and we really don't want the baby to get sick.  At least the end is in sight!  She could always come on her own before then, which I would actually prefer, so we'll see!  I just have to keep reminding myself we have waited a long time for her, what's a few more days?

So we went to the doctor this morning and he seemed pretty confident that our baby will be coming this week!  Hooray!  I'm at a 2.5 and 90% effaced.  Can't wait!

I have some random photos I meant to post, but never did.  So... here they are!

Here is Dan at Christmas.  I don't think I even posted about our Christmas!  We stayed in St. George and enjoyed a nice Christmas morning together.  Then we headed over to Dan's parents house for a delicious dinner.  We also saw the movie "Wreck it Ralph" on Christmas Eve, which I thought was really cute.

Here is Dan's real Christmas present, a piano!  It's something we both have been wanting for a long time.  We finally have a house to put it in, so we got one!  It came a few days after Christmas and we love it!  For those who don't know, my husband is an amazing pianist (yep, I can brag about him!).  I love hearing him play!  He often comes home from work now and plays the piano while I make dinner.  Occasionally I even try to play a hymn or primary song.  I'm hoping to get better!  If only I had practiced more when I was younger.

The other morning I woke up early and an orange glow was coming through my blinds.  I looked outside and this is what I saw!  Beautiful!  I love where I live.

And lastly, this is me saying "I am 39 weeks and huge!"  Baby girl is due this week!  I can't believe this pregnancy is almost over.  I will try to keep everyone posted on what's going on.  Hopefully she decides to come this week, but maybe she'll be late.  Dan came on his due date and I came 8 days late.  We'll see who she takes after :).

Hey, maybe this will be the last maternity photo I post!  Who knows how much longer baby plans on staying in there.  The Dr. checked me again yesterday.  Dilated to a 1 and 80% effaced.  We're ready for her whenever she decides to show up.

And my latest project...

Vinyl birds for the nursery!  I love how it turned out.  I had never cut vinyl that big on my Silhouette before, but it turned out to be pretty easy.  Hope baby likes it!  

Baby Update

I'm just about 36 weeks!  I can't believe we are getting so close to meeting our sweet baby girl!  I am now down to having doctors appointments every week.  I went in this morning and everything still looks great.  I am about 50% effaced, but not dilated at all.  My doctor thinks she will come right around her due date.  Which is fine by me, I've still got lots to do!  I've been working on the nursery and freezer meals lately.

And congrats to my sister, Noelle (and her husband Jared), who just had her baby!  He was born on New Years Eve.  That makes 3 nephews in my family born on New Years Eve (the other 2 are twins).  We always joked about having our babies on the same day, but her baby decided to come 2 1/2 weeks early.  Welcome to the family, baby Calvin!

Family Baby Shower

I have been meaning to blog about this for weeks, but I had to wait for my sister to post pictures on her blog so I could borrow them :).  At the beginning of the month we went up north for my family baby shower.  My mom, sister and sister in laws threw the shower and it was so much fun!  I shared the shower with my sister, Noelle, who is due 2 weeks before me.  It's her first baby too.  She is having a boy.  

We first ate lunch, then played the yarn game where people guess how big your belly is, we played the "guess how much candy is in the jar game," and then opened presents.  My mom was the winner of the yarn game.  She got my belly size almost exactly!

28 weeks

I realized I haven't posted a belly pic in over a month!  Here I am... 28 weeks (hello, 3rd trimester!)

I feel like I haven't changed much since the last pic.  I did have to finally put away my skinny jeans though!  I still wear most of my normal shirts, but I've had to switch over to mostly maternity pants.   

Not much news except I'm stopping my job earlier than I had originally planned.  After having a cold for nearly 2 weeks I decided I am done being around sick kids all day!  I should be done working by the end of this month.  Yay!  I'd rather stay home and sew anyway :)  

We still haven't started on our nursery because our basement is not quite done yet.  However, we are getting super close!  Our carpet goes in tomorrow and then we can start moving things down there.  I can't wait to post pics of our finished basement!

That's pretty much it for us.  Just 12 more weeks til we meet baby girl.  Time is just flying by!    

Projects & a baby bump

Time for a quick post before I head off to work.  Just to show you all what I've been up to lately.  First off... most recent baby bump pic:

23 weeks... I'm finally looking pregnant!  At least I think so :)

Second thing, I sewed a blanket for baby girl!  I really like how it turned out.  I did most of it in one night while Dan was at church meetings.  It's not all fancy quilted or anything like that, but I think baby will like it.

The front is the aqua & the back is pink minky with a green ruffle all the way around.  I used the tutorial on this blog.  It wasn't too difficult.  Minky is a little bit of a pain to sew, but not too bad.  Also, I found my fabric at Mormon Handicraft.  I was so excited to find fabric in all 3 of the colors I am using for the nursery.  My next sewing project is probably a carseat cover.

Lastly, while I was at my sewing machine this week I decided to finally finish these Old MacDonald puppets I started a year ago!  They really aren't that difficult, I just kept forgetting about them.  But glad I have them done now that I'll have a child to enjoy them.

I love them, even the backs are cute.  The horse is my favorite!  I got free printable patterns for them at this blog here.  The only thing I added was I gave Old MacDonald a hat, which wasn't in the original pattern.

Aside from sewing, working and resting the only other thing we've been working on is designing our basement!  It is coming along.  We most recently chose the carpet, cabinets & tile.  Can't wait for the whole thing to be finished!

Nursery Project #1

Last week I was wandering through the TJ Maxx... which this should be noted, St. George has the best TJ Maxx.  Seriously, I love it.  I never really liked TJ Maxx until I moved here.  You can even ask my mom, whenever she visits we always make a trip to the TJ Maxx.  Anyway back to the story... so I stopped by TJ Maxx to see what baby stuff I might find and I came across a little table I thought would be cute in the nursery.  My plan is to get a glider and I thought this little side table would be perfect next to the glider.  You know, so I can put things down while nursing the baby, etc.  Oh one other side note, I've gotten mixed reviews from mom's about gliders.  But my mind is already made up, I want one.  Now back to the table.  It was exactly what I had in mind and lucky for me, happened to be in the clearance section because it had a few scratches.  The only problem was it was a dark wood (everything else is white).  But I thought "we can paint this!"  So... I bought it.

I then decided to head to Lowes to buy paint.  Once I got there I wasn't exactly sure what I needed.  I called Dan and he didn't sound nearly as excited about the table as I was.  He told me all about the sanding it would take, and then the priming and then the painting.  It didn't sound like it would be too difficult.  After checking out the paint I immediately chose a lovely aqua color (i'm thinking aqua, pink & green as the colors for the nursery).  And did you know at Lowes you can get a little paint sample for $3?  I picked up some paint brushes and then went over to the primer and found the most amazing primer ever!  Ok seriously, if you are going to paint any type of wood with a laminate or varnish on it, you NEED this primer.  It's called Zinsser primer for all surfaces.  I read the back and it said it would stick to any finish, no sanding required!  I was so excited to find this awesome product.  Who knew primer could be so exciting?  I took my findings home, showed Dan, and I'm pretty sure he was impressed with my home improvement skills.

And then guess what happened?  My nice husband took everything to the basement (since it's unfinished and being painted anyway) and did all the work for me!  Love that man!  I think it took 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint and NO sanding (yep, worked as advertised).  Ready for the finished product???

Turned out perfectly.  And sorry for the really long story, but I find it important for everyone who has ever wanted to paint wood furniture to know how easy it is!

20 weeks!

This baby and I are half way!  I can't believe it!  In some ways the time seems to go by slow, but other times in seems super fast.  Now that I feel good, it's going by a lot quicker.  Check out my 20 week belly:

The ladies at my work keep telling me they can't believe how small I am.  I don't feel that small.  I am still wearing all of my normal clothes though, which has been nice.  Occasionally I put on some maternity clothes, but most of the things I have bought don't even fit yet.

The most exciting thing this week is Dan got to feel the baby move!  We finally timed it perfectly (it has taken a few tries).

Today we started our first project for the nursery.  I will post before and after pics once it is all finished.  I love a good crafty project!

And what am I loving lately?  Kneaders soup!  We went there last night and I really want to go get more today.  Mmmm... love fall and love Kneaders.  

Baby Girl

My friend, Adri, told me I need to post more pregnancy updates so I can remember everything.  I actually have a journal where I have tried to write down pretty much everything.  I figure not everyone wants to read about all my pregnancy details (like the crazy dreams I have nightly).  But here is a little update at 19 weeks (almost half way)!

This morning we went to the doctor and had our big ultrasound.  The ultrasound tech immediately knew our baby was a girl this time.  100% sure!  It was a relief knowing I didn't have to return all the girl stuff I had already bought.  Then they did a really thorough examination of the baby to make sure everything was developing properly.  Luckily baby is healthy and right on track.  We are so happy about that!  My doctor told me I am a pro at being pregnant because everything looks great.  They recorded the ultrasound on a DVD for us and also gave us some pics.  They did the 4-D ultrasound, which some people think looks weird, but when you are the parent you think it is the cutest thing ever!  haha... I loved it.  I am seriously amazed at the technology they have these days.  So far I've had 4 ultrasounds and it is really remarkable to me how much this baby grows and develops in such a short time.  It will most likely be the last ultrasound I have during my pregnancy, I'm going to miss seeing our little girl each month!

A few other fun things from this week.  We got our stroller and carseat in the mail!  I went with a Britax.  It had great reviews and I liked how it was a travel system but the stroller only had 3 wheels and seemed lighter.  I've also really started feeling baby move this week.  She seems to be most active in the afternoons and early evenings.  Sometimes I wonder if she is jumping on my bladder.  I can't wait until Dan will be able to feel her moving too.

I keep wanting to start the nursery but we are waiting until our basement is finished (it's about half way).  Once it's done we can move all of our study/craft room stuff downstairs and then we can start on the nursery.  I've got lots of ideas and we bought lots of furniture at Ikea last week for the nursery, but most likely the basement won't be done for another month or two.

I'm feeling really good lately and just can't wait to meet our baby girl!  

Labor Day Weekend

For the long weekend we went up north to my parent's house.  The weather felt so good!  While up there we went nursery furniture shopping at Ikea and spent lots of time with family and friends.  It was fun to see a lot of people.  On Monday we had a BBQ with my family and I made sure to snap a picture with my sister, Noelle.  She is pregnant too.  She is having a boy.  Here we are:

I feel like the last couple of weeks my belly has really popped out.  On Friday I am having another ultrasound and will know for sure if we are having a girl.  I hope so, otherwise I will have a lot of returning to do!

Such a great weekend!  Now back to normal life.  

Back to School

Everyone has been asking me how my job is going, so I thought I'd do a little blog update.  I started working a week and a half ago and I have to say, I was absolutely exhausted after the first day!  My body went from laying on the couch most of the day to spending the day walking all over a school (somehow the classroom I'm in just happens to be on opposite ends of the school from the special ed. room).  I came home thinking... "what am I doing???!"  But since then it has gotten a lot better.  I'm still tired every day, but I like that it gets me out of the house and I'm starting to tell myself the walking all over the school is good exercise!  I am working with the same kids I had last year, so instead of being in kindergarten we have all moved up to first grade.  The adjustment from kindergarten to first grade is difficult because these kids aren't used to staying all day long.  By the end of the day they are so tired.  But we're working through it!

I'm also happy to report I am over the morning sickness phase.  Yay!!!  I haven't thrown up in a few weeks and the nausea is gone (for the most part).  I started feeling better about 2 days before school started.  Seriously an answer to my prayers.  I knew If I was sick there'd be no way I could work.  But now I feel good, just tired.  Some foods are starting to sound better and I had my first real pregnancy craving this week.  I woke up from a nap and all I could think about was a Digiorno stuffed crust pizza!  Something I have not had in years.  I just kept imagining the stuffed crust and it's the only thing that sounded good.  So Dan and I ran to the store to get some.  It did satisfy my craving, but tasted way better in my head.

And lastly, a little story from work...  so I was walking a boy back to class and he said to me "Miss Michele, I think you got taller over the summer!"  and I said "oh yeah?  What about fatter?"  he replied "nope, you still look skinny to me!"  Then I proceeded to tell him I was pregnant and that in a few months I might not look so skinny.  However, I don't feel skinny anymore, but everyone keeps telling me I don't even look pregnant yet.  I definitely have more of a belly than I've ever had in my life though!  But I'm fine with being small, otherwise I can't imagine how I'd be by 9 months.

GIRL!!!!!!!  At least we're 90% sure...  baby was being modest and made it hard to tell!  She was kind of laying weird and crossing her legs so the ultrasound tech had to look around for quite a while.  She was trying to get the baby to move.  Anyway... she finally told us she was pretty sure it's a girl.  We both have felt like it was a girl, so we're going with that!  I can't wait to go shopping... the doctor told me to save my receipts just in case.  We're having another ultrasound in a month where we will hopefully know 100% if it's a baby girl.  Anyway we are super excited!!!
